Who we are

Entrenched in work that was started in May 2014, Bokamoso Care Centre in its early years focused on providing support to the unemployed youth of Ga-Rankuwa and care to young women who could not afford essentials such as sanitary pads. We recognized the need to surround families who lived in economically unstable areas with comprehensive services in their communities.

Bokamoso Care Centre initiated a family support program in Ga-Rankuwa and soon began to collaborate with various professionals to develop the first of what has become a broad range of innovative and successful educational support models in schools.

In partnership with the community, we have built a continuum of township-based youth development, educational, vocational, and family support services that now includes more than 40 programs—all dedicated to meeting the needs of people who live in Ga-Rankuwa where inequitable education and scarce resources are pervasive.

These core values inspire our staff members, volunteers and participants and drive everything we do – including our approach to the work, the decisions we make, and the way we collaborate.

Why Choose Us

Learning

We prioritize ongoing education for both ourselves and our participants. We constantly seek out new ways to be effective and use evidence and data to help us be successful.

Optimsim

We know we can make a real difference with a positive approach that builds upon the inherent strengths that children, youth, and families have to transform themselves.

Responsiveness

We listen deeply to and respect the children, youth, and families with whom we work. In Ga-Rankuwa with few resources, we do what it takes to respond, and have built the ability to adapt into our approach.

Our Approach To
Cultural Humility
IMG_20221121_095518

We commit to ongoing learning and self-reflection about ourselves, our assumptions and our cultural identities. We honor and respect the culture and social identities of others as they see themselves – seeking to understand each person’s unique experiences and views – including the intersectionality of oppression.

1. We REALIZE the widespread impact of trauma, racism and oppression and understand the potential paths for healing.

2. We RECOGNIZE the signs and symptoms of trauma, racism and oppression in youth, families, communities, ourselves and our organization.

3. We RESPOND by fully integrating knowledge about trauma, anti-racism and healing into policies, procedures and practices.

4. We RESIST re-traumatization by identifying triggers (including micro-aggressions) and implementing collaborative and healing responses.
